1. Introduction

Welcome to Digital Strength. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains how we collect, use and look after your personal information when you visit our website, get in touch, or use our web design and website hosting services. We follow the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR).

Digital Strength is a small business based in Shropshire. We are the people responsible for your data, and you can reach us any time at [email protected].

2. Information we collect

When you use our website or our services, we may collect:

  • Personal information: your name, email address, billing details and any other contact details you choose to give us.
  • Account information: usernames, passwords and other credentials needed to manage your account or your hosting.
  • Payment information: when you buy our services, your payment details are collected securely by our third-party payment processor.
  • Technical information: your IP address, browser type, operating system, and logs from our website and hosting servers.
  • Messages and sign-ups: anything you send us through our contact or quote forms, and your email address if you join our mailing list.

3. Legal basis for using your information

Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR, we only use your personal data when we have a lawful reason to. These are the reasons we rely on:

  • Contractual necessity: to provide and manage our web design and hosting services.
  • Legal obligations: to comply with the law and with regulations that apply to us.
  • Legitimate interests: to improve our services and customer experience, and to keep our website secure.
  • Consent: for things like marketing emails. You can withdraw your consent at any time.

4. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • provide and manage our web design and hosting services;
  • process payments and handle billing;
  • reply to your enquiries and support requests, and keep you updated about your account;
  • improve our services and our website;
  • comply with our legal obligations.

Marketing emails: with your consent, we may email you about our services and updates. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also just ask us to stop.

5. How we protect your information

We take sensible security measures to look after your personal data, including encryption, secure storage and access controls. No online service is completely secure though, so we can’t promise absolute security.

6. Sharing your information

We don’t sell or rent your personal data. We may share it with companies that help us run our services, for example payment processors, data centres, our email and mailing list tools, and analytics and spam-protection providers (see the cookies section below). They only get what they need to do their job.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files that a website saves on your device. When you first visit, we ask whether you are happy for us to use analytics cookies. You can say yes or no, and both options are equally easy. Here is what ours does:

  • Analytics (only if you say yes): we use Google Analytics to see, in general terms, how people use our website (for example which pages are visited). This sets cookies called _ga and _ga_ followed by a code, which last up to about 13 months. These cookies are not set unless you click “Accept”. If you click “No thanks”, we don’t set them. If you said yes earlier and change your mind, we delete them.
  • Your choice: we save your answer in your browser’s local storage (called ds_consent) so we don’t keep asking. If our consent tool is active, it also saves your choice in small cookies whose names start with wp_consent_. We ask again after 12 months. You can change your answer at any time using the cookie settings link here.
  • Essential and functional: our website, forms and sign-up pop-up use a small amount of storage so they work properly. For example, if you close our mailing list pop-up, we remember that for a few days so it doesn’t keep appearing. Our caching (LiteSpeed) and security and content delivery (Cloudflare) tools also help the site load quickly and safely. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without using cookies.
  • Spam protection: our contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA to check that a real person is sending the message and not a bot. Google may collect some information about your device and how you use the page when it does this.
  • Fonts: our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when the page loads.

If you say no to analytics, Google Analytics does not store cookies on your device. Google’s tag may still receive limited, cookie-free information when a page loads (for example that a page was viewed, your IP address and your browser type). Google uses this to estimate overall visitor numbers. It is not used to follow you from site to site.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site working properly. You can stop Google Analytics tracking altogether with Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

8. Your rights under UK and EU GDPR

You have the right to:

  • Access: ask for details of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification: have anything that’s wrong corrected.
  • Erasure (“right to be forgotten”): ask us to delete your data in certain circumstances.
  • Restriction of processing: ask us to limit how we use your data.
  • Data portability: get a copy of your data in a structured format.
  • Object: object to us using your data for legitimate interests or direct marketing.

To use any of these rights, email us at [email protected]. If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled your data, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

9. Data retention

We keep your personal information for as long as we need it to provide our services and to meet our legal obligations. When we no longer need it, we securely delete it or anonymise it.

10. Third-party links

Our website may link to other websites. We’re not responsible for their privacy practices, so please have a look at their policies too.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date.
